Thursday, February 23rd, 2006. The book of knowledge.
Today I received a brown parcel from our government body. Inside rested a full colour issue of the third edition of the Canoe and Kayak Handbook, written by enthusiastic Bcu coaches and practitioners.
In principio erat verbum.
Well aware that the dedicated Celtic monks charged with the illumination of these manuscripts never cease to copy models of this invaluable source of information in Insular majuscule script, I perused through the first pages to discover plain black ink over white paste paper. The truth downed hard on me: My specimen had not been illuminated.
This is definitely not vellum of high quality. This is the absolute absence of miniatures, ribbons ornamented with interlacings, garlands, rose-work or sturdy foliage in the borders.
A plain, simple copy of the Bcu Vulgate. Arggh.
