Monday, May 15th, 2006. Brass dividers.
My first set of navigation instruments bought from an on line chandler, arrived today. I have chosen to keep things simple. As per example, instead of the more specialised designs available or more precious metals, the handle of my handsome English single-handed, eight inch dividers is brass while the tapered sides are of a plain marine alloy. I would not swear by it, but the accuracy when plotting course and distance on a sea chart should be indistinguishable.
That’s it. Simple yet effective.
As most good navigation dividers, mine have a tension screw that can be adjusted to prevent them from becoming either too loose or too stiff for easy use. I discarded the idea of the cheap dividers that lack a tension screw and will soon become too loose for proper use. Neat, carefully arranged navigational tools over Admiralty charts, should give instinctly the idea of a disciplined trip and dissuade the crew from any thoughts of mutinous sedition.
I think that I might need a globe. To preserve the mystique thing.

That was my scuba diving equipment and it only happened once.
