Wednesday, October 17th, 2007. Tektite Navlite™.
Every few weeks I am startled to realize that in spite of cabinets and chests of goods, still I am deplorably underequipped. If I attempt to practice serious nocturnal navigation, wearing just my Xenon torch light, the glow sticks for the compass and the strobe light is a no-no, as much as the navigation rule only asks to have ready at hand a white light to be exhibited in time to prevent collision.
Like a cursed Sisyphus punished to roll huge bundles of paddling equipment up a steep hill throughout eternity, I have looked for a set green and red lights to be strapped securely on the far deck for the benefit of seamen and my own peace and quiet.
Some enterprising colonials have invented the Tektite Navlite seems to offer versatile mounting options using bungee cords, line, or straps. The two Led lights of the Navlite are made of corrosion-resistant materials, waterproof to over 100 feet and each are powered by three ordinary AA alkaline battery which should last for 100 hours of special operations.
A matching stern white light is also available.

I use a Princeton Tec Apex headlamp on the water: http://www.princetontec.com/products/index.php?id=2
Two pictures with the lamps in use:

Always years ahead of me.
I did not fathom the sternlight to be so tall. Do you find its mounting to be solid enough for capsizes or moderate surf?
For bigger surf and waves there is a more permanent mount as you can se in pictures here: http://www.orust-kajak.se/produkter/tektite_lanternor.html
