Monday, November 17th, 2008. Developments.

Under a waxing Nordkapp Tourette syndrom I drove on Sunday to the Barcelona International Boat Show for a new boat. I have already found plausible explanations for such an avid indulgement. No problem. I have grown known at ascribing the best agreeable reasons to unwanted misdeeds.
I took advantage of a glittering Valley Aquanut to shot some photos of the new Valley features. The new seat is set lower with a carved shape that raises the thighs against a closer keyhole that should afford an improved brace. The black foam liner looks quite much the same.
The back rest looks robust and easier to adjust firmly. It is clipped at the base of the seat to avoid it being folded down in entries. There are two string loops at the base of the seat to tether or clip dry bags, a flare pack, and other essentials that the user would deem hateful to see washed away. The black band carries the red Valley name, and the best observers among you might have distinguished a nice, tiny Valley label in sewn in the back seam. A fetish item, no doubt. I see a lingery line coming out just of this.
Last but not least: The new skeg which slides back to deploy the skeg, pushing a stout rod made from marine steel that should forever forfeit the risk of a cable kink, that most dreaded of misfortunes.
These new advancements are already in place for the new Aquanuts and Avocet, to be standard features in the new composite kayaks by spring 2009.

Very nice update, Sir Wenley, of the new Valley mods. I am thrilled to see that, after many years of dreaded seat pan and back bands, Valley has finally made a change. Time will tell if it is an improvement. My Aquanuat LV from June 2008 stil sports the now old style, and frankly, until something is proven better, I am fine with that. That is to say, I know the seat sucks, so I know what I am getting. Although the back band is perhaps improved, skeg controls are fickle items, and one will have to see if the marine metal collar on the new skeg level withstands bumps, bangs, and salt water. The seat pan itself remains a mystery--a cheap plastic seat pan on a $3000 boat is a tad hard to swallow.

Thank you for your post, Wenley. Very helpful. CD1/coolkayaker1

Dear Doctor,

It is good to hear again from you. The new back band seems to offer a firmer contact. However the seat pan looks very much the same although I thought it is meant to raise the thighs.

How is your Aqanut?
