Monday, April 13th, 2009. Wireless.
Mail from the Royal Yachting Association awarding me a short range certificate. This qualifies me as a maritime radio operator which is very impressive and makes you a real man. However, I still need to apply for Ship Portable Radio Licence to receive a call sign and a portable MMSI number: As soon as good hand-held DSC/VHF radios are available.
There is ground though, for objection. Certificate of competence does not sound quite as right as wireless operator. My hidden suitcase radio is already hissing in the loft, and I intend to start immediately to release suspicious messages to the ether in Morse code.
