The Orion kayak is one of Derek Hutchinson’s most famous designs and has been ploughing the world’s seas and oceans for nearly two decades. Although it’s ancestry can be traced back still further the Orion has not dated and testimony to this is continued worldwide demand.
Much of the success is due to its amazing versatility. High stability and ease of handling give a feeling of security to the beginner, whilst its sea worthiness and load carrying qualities are often appreciated by the more experienced. The Orion is a genuine all round sea kayak, doing everything well and nothing badly.
Although a classic design the Orion comes with all of the features expected of a modern sea kayak. It comes fitted as standard with an excellent retractable skeg system and comfortable adjustable seat. Other features included 2 large watertight hatches and one day hatch, adjustbale footrest, backrest, deck lines and chart elastics. The following optional extras are also available. Rudder instead of skeg, compact 50 Hand operated pump, keel reinforcing strip, footpump, outside seam.
It is constructed with a glass fibre deck and glass and diolen hull. A kevlar carbon version is also available for a lighter weight kayak.
